Database review- Ancestry.com

 Ancestry.com-

I have been using Ancestry as a search database on and off for many years now. What I like about the site is the simple search format. I am one of those people who needs to be able to scroll across an area of the web page and see where different links will take me, or at least have the chance to find what I’m looking for in a few clicks. I think Ancestry provides both of those options. I did do the ancestry.com DNA test. The results were fascinating for me. After my father died I had no idea what his actual race was. We both had been asked for years if we were from Asian descent or Pacific Islander. He and I had no idea. We had the basics i.e. European, possibly Native American. The test was easy to use. You can register online so that when your results come in you get a whole page dedicated to the information found from your results. At long last I found out where our descendants originated from, Ireland and Spain. I love that Central Library gives free access to Ancestry.com. I suggest utilizing this excellent database as much as you can. Who knows you may have a positive experience like I did.

The Election of 2016

Here at the Saint Louis Public Library I have the honor of working with a librarian who is always up for keeping the public well-informed. Today she greeted me with a smile and requested I double check a document she created for the people of Saint Louis. Here's the document:

Tonight at The Saint Louis Public Library we have The League of Women Voters sponsored event at Central Library in the auditorium from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm with both sides discussing the issues we will see on our ballot November 8th.

Stranger Things

At times I have had random, or at least what I believe is random, memories. Lately I have been delving into my past attempting to evaluate who I have become. Working in the Social Sciences room at the library has assisted me in analyzing the past, dreams, behaviors, society, structure, and development among religion and fundraising. I created a Stranger Things display recently, if you have not seen the Netflix Original "Stranger Things" you are missing out. Follow the white rabbit aka the link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4574334/ In my search for information regarding random memories and unusual dreams I happily found my self in the Social Sciences room a place I am all too familiar with. Because lets be honest, Social Sciences covers a bunch of stranger things...
Here's a picture of the Stranger Things Display

Everything I never told you- Celeste Ng- YA- Fic

I was convinced I knew exactly what was going on the entire way through this book, until the last chapter where I realized how wrong I was. The story follows a mixed Chinese American family after the loss of their daughter. Each character has their own version of the events that led to the final few chapters. The story takes place in 1977 and has themes relating to women’s rights, homosexuality, un-wanted pregnancy, peer pressure, and death and suicide. I felt completely engrossed in this book though my expectations weren’t very high jumping from one genre to another whilst beginning this book. As I said before there are many topics that are touched upon during this novel. I caution young adults to read with care.
